Winter Skills Courses in Scotland
Our Winter Skills packages are based in either Glen Nevis or the Cairngorm Mountains and include demonstration and practise in those skills required to operate safely in the UK hills in winter conditions.

These include ice axe arrest, use of crampons and ice axes, avalanche awareness, and winter navigation. Both locations offer rapid mountain uplift facilities in the form of the Nevis Range gondola or the Cairngorm ski road. These enable us to make the most of the short winter days by spending as much time as possible where we are most likely to encounter snow.

In addition to set-piece skills practice, clients will have the chance of some excellent winter hillwalking and the opportunity to sample the Scottish mountains at their best.
The top-quality self-catering accommodation utilised by Hillways has all the amenities needed to set you up for the challenges that lie ahead. Hot showers and good, healthy meals do wonders for the spirits and enable each new day to be enjoyed to the full.
Guided Winter Hillwalking in Scotland
Apart from the obvious attractions of the Cairngorms, or Ben Nevis, both locations offer a wealth of alternative mountain settings. These include exploring the hidden upper corries of Glencoe, searching out the arctic plateaux of Creag Meagaidh, or just finding some nice wee hill to experience winter in silence tramping virgin snow under sun-streaked cloudscapes.
