Corbetts in Scotland
In contrast to the Munros, Corbetts are defined by specific objective criteria. Corbetts are separate mountains between 2500-2999ft high with a minimum descent of 500ft in any direction. Consequently, despite their lower height, Corbetts in general are more isolated and require greater effort to climb than Munros.
Similarly, whilst several Munros, grouped together along a single ridge, may be climbed together in a single day, the opportunities to climb more than one or two Corbetts at one time are limited. Corbetts are named after John Corbett, an early member of the Scottish Mountaineering Club (SMC) who climbed every mountain in Scotland above 2000ft. There are currently 221 Corbetts.
